1.0 Introduction

The Bachelor of Development Planning and Management aims to explore the concepts, principles, theories, and techniques crucial in shaping development goals and priorities. It focuses on all areas of development, encompassing input management to outputs, as well as private sector and market development.

2.0 Rationale

This program is designed to cultivate skills and competencies necessary for understanding and responding to key aspects of development planning at the global, regional, and community levels. Its goal is to facilitate the achievement of long-term economic growth and sustainable development.

3.0 Aims of the Programme

The Bachelor of Development Planning and Management aims to produce graduates equipped with knowledge, competencies, analytical and research skills in the following areas:

  • Global and local processes focused on poverty reduction
  • Planning and development strategies
  • Economic and ecological processes
  • Social practice

4.0 Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of the program are as follows:

  • Analyze and apply existing theories from a multidisciplinary field of development and planning studies.
  • Recognize how international development trends such as climate change, migration, and urbanization manifest in local processes of continuity and change.
  • Critically assess the utilization of knowledge about the most relevant management and planning methods as tools for sustainable development and participative planning.
  • Apply conceptual and theoretical knowledge to real-life situations and contexts.
  • Apply knowledge and skills to inform management and decision-making processes in both the private and public sectors.

5.0 Entry Requirements

Prospective students must satisfy the following entry requirements as specified in the General Regulations:

  • Must have passed Grade 12 or Form V with a minimum of credit in at least five subjects, including English Language; OR
  • ‘O’ Level certificate from a recognized Examination Board with a minimum of grade C in at least five subjects, including English Language; OR
  • ‘A’ Level certificate from a recognized Examination Board with passes in the English Language and any other recognized equivalent subjects.
  • Students possessing a diploma from a recognized College (recognized by Mulungushi University) shall enter into the program at Year 2.
