As part of its 2025 Academic Framework the Local Government Training Institute is conducting a Professional Development Programme for Council Police. The training programme is being implemented in two phases, with the first cohort running from 6th to 31st January 2025. The first cohort attracted over 200 participants, drawn from all the 116 local authorities. The next cohort is scheduled for June 2025.

Both phases of the training programme will be conducted by Chalimbana local government training institute (CLGTI) in collaboration with the Geoffrey Mukuma Paramilitary Training School under the Zambia Police Service. The training has been designed to equip trainees with both knowledge on the local government system as well as skills on security techniques and community policing strategies. At the end of this one-month intensive training program, it is expected that the officers will be exposed to the best practices and professional values that will guide the execution of their duties as custodians of law & order in their respective localities.
The next cohort is scheduled for June 2025.
