Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute (CLGTI), in collaboration with the World Bank, successfully conducted an intensive Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) training programme from 20th to 24th July, 2026 for 41 participants drawn from ZANACO (Apex Bank) and other participating financial institutions, namely ACCESS Bank Zambia, Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank (ZICB), and Enterprise Financial Company (EFC).
The training forms part of the Zambia Agribusiness and Trade Project II (ZATP II), a Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry (MCTI) initiative that is being implemented in partnership with key stakeholders to strengthen capacity in environmental and social risk management within the financial sector.
Participants successfully completed 10 comprehensive ESRM modules, which equipped them with the knowledge and practical skills to identify, assess, manage, and monitor environmental and social risks associated with financing agribusiness and other investment projects. The programme also emphasized the application of international best practices and national regulatory requirements in responsible lending and sustainable investment.
The ESRM curriculum was developed by the World Bank in collaboration with Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute (CLGTI), the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), the University of Zambia (UNZA), and the University of Lusaka (UNILUS).
Following the successful completion of all ten modules, the 41 participants were awarded certificates, recognizing their competence in applying Environmental and Social Risk Management principles in financial decision-making.
This training reinforces CLGTI’s commitment to building institutional capacity and supporting Zambia’s sustainable economic development by promoting responsible financing practices that contribute to resilient and inclusive growth, particularly within the agribusiness sector.
